As the fall season settles in, we are reminded of so many cherished memories of our mother, Sherry. Thanksgiving, especially, was her absolute favorite time of year. This will be the second holiday season without her since she passed away in March of 2023. She would have turned 65 this year, and without a doubt, she’d be baking more apple and pumpkin pies than she could keep up with, standing by the oven well into the afternoon before dinner was served.
Coffee was always a staple during our Thanksgiving preparations. I, Jenelle, used to stop by the big coffee shop down the road to pick up harvest blends because the warm, rich tasting notes of every steamy sip brought us back to simpler times—times when, for just a few moments, the world's worries seemed to melt away.
Our mother had a way of turning every holiday gathering into something special. She always made more than enough food, hoping the people she invited would stay a little longer. She’d invite more people than could probably fit, always imagining that maybe this year, they’d all show up. When we were in middle school, her two little girls were finally old enough to brew a fresh pot of coffee, help with the cooking, set the table, and vacuum the floor before guests arrived. It was a chaotic, but wonderful time.
Of course, we always had more than enough food to go around. And when dessert was served and the board games came out, there was always plenty of coffee left to keep the night going just a little longer.
It was our mother's hospitality that brought many people to her dinner table and it's what started Good Grounds Coffee Co. And because of our fond memories of hospitality with her, we want to share that with our coffee community.
Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving memory like ours? We'd love to hear about it—share in the comments!
