The Perfect French Press Recipe

French Press Coffee and Cup

Brewing coffee with a French press is a simple yet rewarding process.

Follow this quick recipe to enjoy a rich and flavorful cup of coffee.

Ingredients:

  • Freshly roasted whole coffee beans
  • Hot water (200°F or 93°C)
  • French press

Equipment:

  • Coffee grinder (preferably burr grinder)
  • Kettle
  • Timer
  • Scale (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Measure and Grind:

    • Measure out 1 ounce (28 grams) of coffee beans for every 15 ounces (450 milliliters) of water.
    • Grind the beans to a coarse consistency, similar to breadcrumbs.
  2. Preheat the French Press:

    • Pour hot water into the empty French press to preheat it. Swirl and then discard the water.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds:

    • Place the freshly ground coffee into the preheated French press.
  4. Bloom the Coffee:

    • Pour just enough hot water over the coffee grounds to saturate them. Let it sit for 30 seconds to allow the coffee to bloom and release its aromas.
  5. Add Water:

    • Pour the remaining hot water over the bloomed coffee grounds. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are saturated.
  6. Steep:

    • Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled up. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
  7. Press and Pour:

    • After 4 minutes, slowly press the plunger down. Pour the coffee immediately into your mug to prevent over-extraction.
  8. Enjoy:

    • Savor the rich and full-bodied flavor of your freshly brewed French press coffee!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality beans for the best flavor.
  • Grind your beans just before brewing to preserve freshness.
  • Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio and steeping time to suit your taste preferences.

Enjoy!
